Tanjung Besi is located at the northern tip of Perhentian Besar (Big). The submerged rocks and boulders set through by caves and overhangs make for a visually interesting site to dive. The surfaces of the granite boulders are full with prolific featerstars, soft corals, gorgonian fans and large sea fans. Scorpionfish, blue-spotted stingrays, damselfish, gobies, star puffers, lizardfish and occasional resting white-tip sharks and nurse sharks are among the marine life around the area. Besides this, shoals of snappers, yellowtail barracudas, jacks, fusiliers, giant groupers, wrasses and sweetlips, pelagic species frequent this area due to the exposure to the open sea to the north.
